JP Maranda has spent the last 20 years as a science writer for US-based geosciences institutions. She earned a BFA in Painting from Arizona State University, and has worked as a professional painter, winning awards for her impressionist figurative work.
As a child she was spellbound by mythological sagas and was especially fascinated by characters that were, in her opinion, harshly misunderstood, abused by more powerful "heroes," or were overlooked altogether. She is currently working on her debut novel that weaves a new cast of characters into the well-worn tapestry of old Norse mythology, unraveling some dearly held premises of those myths in the process.
Maranda has lived in two countries, eight states, 16 cities, and has most recently settled in western Michigan. When she's not working on her novel she can be found painting, wandering somewhere in the forest, or following her favorite heavy metal bands when they're touring nearby.
